Sweden is a European country of nearly 10 million people of which 1.7 million are immigrants. Sweden is a member of the European Union and Schengen area but not part of the Eurozone. National currency of Sweden is Swedish Krona (SEK).

Who Can Apply for Sweden Immigration?

Requirements to obtain a Swedish work permit are as follows; first you must have a valid passport, you must have been offered terms of employment and offered a salary that is on par with Swedish collective agreements, you must be able to support yourself with the position you are offered (at least SEK 13.000 per month before taxes) and finally your employer must provide insurance covering health, life, employment and pension.

If you want to start your own business in Sweden or become a part owner of a company based in Sweden, you must;

  • show that you have significant experience in your field and previous experience of running your own business
  • have documented and relevant knowledge in Swedish and/or English
  • show that you are running the business and that you own at least half of the business
  • show that the business’ services or goods are sold and/or produced in Sweden
  • show that you have sufficient funds to support you and, if applicable, your family during the first two years (equivalent to SEK 200,000 for you, SEK 100,000 for your spouse and SEK 50,000 for each accompanying child)
  • provide reliable source documentation for your budget
  • show that you have established customer contacts and/or a network in Sweden
  • show that your company, following a 2-year probationary period, will have its finances in balance and you have the ability to support yourself and, if applicable, your family

If you are self-employed or received a job offer, you can apply for residence/work permit online in the country of your residence. Also, if you have received a job offer in Sweden you should apply for and have been granted a work permit before entering Sweden.
